Dr. Stefanie Kesting is an experienced leader in the energy industry, with a strong track record in identifying new business and making it happen.
As Director Innovation at Uniper, she is since early 2016 responsible for the identification and development of new business areas outside Uniper’s core business. Uniper was founded in January 2016 as a spinoff of E.ON, taking over E.ON’s activities in the field of conventional power generation (hydro, gas, coal and oil), global commodity trading (power, emission certificates, natural gas, LNG, coal and freight), energy storage (gas storage, power-to-gas, battery solutions), energy sales (industrial customers, public utilities and energy partners) and energy services (engineering and technical expertise). Key strategic innovation areas include, amongst others: New power flexibility options, Digital business, Hydrogen and CO2/Carbon recycling.
Since November 2017, she is also President of CO2 Value Europe, a new Industrial Association dedicated to Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU). The Association consists of more than 60 members, fostering CCU business models and the creation of a scaleable CCU industry, which produces fuels, chemicals and materials from CO2 as a valuable input factor. Since 2018 Stefanie has been a member of the Advisory Board of the Global CO2 Initiative, Michigan, USA.
Between 2013 and 2016, Stefanie was responsible for Board affairs, communications, marketing, market design and regulations at E.ON Connecting Energies GmbH. From 2006 to 2013, Stefanie had a career at world-wide energy consultancy KEMA (today: DNV GL), holding different management positions in several countries. Between 2000 and 2006, Stefanie worked at the energy research institutes of the Universities Cologne (EWI) and Bremen (BEI). During studies and PhD, she worked in addition at E.ON AG, Düsseldorf, and E.ON Ruhrgas in Essen.
Stefanie studied Business Administration (Dipl.Kffr.) and Economics (PhD) and is the author of numerous recognized publications. Amongst other activities, she has been a Board member of EWI Alumni, member of IUB Alumni, ESMT Alumni, reviewer of Zeitschrift für Energiewirtschaft ZfE, jury member of Jacobs business challenge, Theodor-Wessels-Preis and business idea competitions in E.ON. In 2006, she was awarded with the GEE Prize of the German IAEE organization GEE, for her PhD thesis on transmission network access regulation in the European gas market. Next to German as her mother tongue, Stefanie speaks English, French and Dutch.
